Hosted Trip ~ Argentina 2026

Join us on March 15th at 11:00 AM in the shop for a live Patagonia presentation!
With the memories of our recent trip to Patagonia fresh in our minds, we have started making plans to return in 2026. Our first adventure was an incredible Trout fishing sampler on the Chinehuin, Collon Cura, and Limay rivers. Next year, we're refining our visit to focus on the best big Trout fishing this area offers. When Jennifer and I landed in San Martín de los Andes, we fell in love with this part of Patagonia the moment we walked out of the airport and saw a fleet of trucks towing drift boats staged to pick us up. We had arrived in Trout Heaven. By the end of our trip, we knew which rivers we wanted to fish again, knowing they would haunt our waking hours until our return.
For 2026, we will focus on the Collon Cura (Co-jun Cur-a) and Limay (La-My) rivers. Both offer incredible scenery, world-class lodging, and some of the best dry fly fishing for trophy Brown and Rainbow Trout. Skating dry flies for monster Trout is something anglers dream about, and these rivers will make those dreams come true. Big fish, big flies, and summertime weather in February; what's not to love?
The Fishing:
All fishing is done from nicely appointed drift boats, with exceptionally talented local guides at the oars. Flies are provided, but it's a good idea to bring a box with your favorites, leaving a little room to add some of the guide's go-to patterns. 5 and 6wt. Fly rods with floating lines are used the most, but having an extra 6 wt. with a sink-tip line for the Limay is a good idea. On the Limay, you may leave your 5 wt. at the lodge and add an extra 6wt. to the lineup. The boats can carry two extra rods per angler, so rigging three rods differently will add to your options afloat. Your fishing day starts after breakfast, 9-9:30, and ends around 7-8:00 PM, depending on the day. Lunch is served in the shade along the river and includes wine, hors d'oeuvres, delicious entrées, and dessert. A nap is often suggested afterward to be ready for the evening fishing. Windy conditions are common, so practice your double haul!
Lodging:
For this trip, we'll upgrade our accommodations on the Collon Cura to the main house on the Estancia Collon Cura, which was once the Argentine digs of media mogul Ted Turner. This residence is currently undergoing a makeover, preparing it for angling guests. It features large rooms, and classic styling, with plenty of windows.
On the Limay, the Limay River Ranch will be our home. It is a collection of custom-made modern cabins featuring comfortable beds, large windows, walk-in showers, and a relaxing deck to enjoy an evening cocktail. (Tip: Have your guide radio ahead, and it will be waiting for you!)
Once again, the experienced staff of Chocolate Lab Expeditions will outfit this adventure. Ron and Vanessa Sorensen have 27 years of experience in the fishing business and 24 years of experience guiding and outfitting clients in Patagonia, Argentina.
The area around San Martín de los Andes offers some of the finest fly-fishing in the world. Located in the northern zone of Patagonia, this area boasts a diversity of fisheries, accommodations, and experiences- from expansive estancias offering miles of private access to fully catered wilderness float trips. The quaint town of San Martín, with its shops, many restaurants, Nicklaus Signature golf course, and fine hotels, is a great place to relax for a few days after fishing before starting the journey home. Guests are encouraged to add a few days to their San Martín and Buenas Aires itinerary to experience Argentinian life fully.
